What we handle when you read the sites or send us a message.

This page explains what information The World Insiders ("we", "us") handles when you read theworldinsiders.com and its section sites (entertainment.theworldinsiders.com, lifestyle.theworldinsiders.com, money.theworldinsiders.com, sports.theworldinsiders.com and tech.theworldinsiders.com) or send us a message. The World Insiders is published by Vertical News Network (verticalnewsnetwork.com).
Summary
- Collection. We collect the information you give us when you write to us, and the technical information your browser sends automatically when it asks for a page.
- Use. We use it to deliver and protect the sites, to find faults, and to read and answer your message.
- Share. We share it only with the companies that run the sites for us (hosting, delivery, security, email and visit statistics), and only so they can provide that service. We may also disclose information when the law requires it.
What the sites do not have
The sites have no accounts, no comments, no newsletter and no way to upload anything. They do not show advertising at present. Any advertising that loads content or cookies from another company will be listed on this page before it goes live. We do not sell or rent information about readers.
Visit statistics
The sites use Google Analytics, a service of Google, to count visits and see which pages are read. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and receives your IP address, the page you read and details of your browser and device. We use the statistics only to understand how the sites are read, and we do not use them to identify you. Google handles this information under its own privacy policy. You can stop it by blocking cookies or scripts in your browser, or by using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on; the sites work without it.
Reading the sites
When your browser asks for a page, it sends technical information: your internet address (IP address), the page you asked for, the time, and details of your browser and device. Our hosting providers and Cloudflare, which sits in front of the sites to deliver them quickly and keep them secure, receive and record this to deliver the pages, keep the sites safe and find faults. The sites themselves set no cookies of their own; Google Analytics and Cloudflare may set cookies, as described on this page.
Content loaded from other hosts
The fonts and style sheets of the sites are served by us, not by an outside font service. The Google Analytics script is loaded from Google. Cloudflare Web Analytics, a page-view counter that sets no cookies, loads a small script from static.cloudflareinsights.com. The International page shows wire photos loaded from Amazon Web Services (verticalcast.s3.amazonaws.com) and pictures loaded from the websites of the news organisations whose feeds it lists; when your browser fetches them, those hosts receive your IP address and browser details. Our pictures are served from our own image address, delivered through Cloudflare. Some pages may show a picture from the website of the organisation that issued the announcement; when your browser fetches it, that server sees your IP address and browser details. Links open another site only when you click them, and that site then applies its own rules.
Sending us a message
To write to us, email [email protected] or use the contact page. We use your name, email address and message to read and answer you, and to keep a record of corrections and removals. We keep a message for as long as we need it to answer you and keep those records, and then delete it (see Retention).
Planned: we plan to protect the contact form with Cloudflare Turnstile, a check that a person is sending it. It is not in use yet. When it is switched on, this section will say that Turnstile receives technical information about your browser for that purpose.
