An ACHR News and myCLEARopinion study found that 70% of homeowners are more likely to call an HVAC company that is open about pricing, while only 2% said transparency made them less likely to call, suggesting the worry that posted prices will scare off customers may be largely unfounded.
Despite that demand, most contractors have not caught up. The same ACHR study found only 31% of HVAC contractors list any pricing online, meaning seven in ten buyers want a number while seven in ten competitors withhold one. For contractors willing to publish, that gap represents an opening to stand apart from competitors who stay silent on cost.
Profit Acuity's guide lays out a structure for building a pricing page. It starts with a real low-to-high range drawn from the last 20 to 30 invoices for a given job, followed by the three or four factors that move a quote within that range, such as size, materials, or site conditions. Two example jobs near the low and high ends, paired with a list of what is included, round out the page. The guide's aim is to answer the homeowner's real question, whether a project is closer to a $900 fix or a $9,000 one, without pretending to replace an actual quote.
Pricing is only the first of roughly 25 questions homeowners research before hiring a contractor, covering cost, necessity, timing, and trust, according to the company's guide. Profit Acuity advises dedicating a separate page to each question so that customers and AI-driven search tools can find direct, specific answers rather than generic marketing copy.
Contractors who publish transparent pricing can shorten their sales cycle, filter out mismatched leads before the first call, and build trust with buyers earlier in their research. Publishing real numbers can position a contractor ahead of competitors who leave pricing off their website entirely.
