As World Menopause Day approaches, Betty Johansen is highlighting her "Dancing Through Menopause" book, which offers women guidance and encouragement through perimenopause and menopause.

Big Spring, United States, October 14, 2026 /NewsNetwork/ -- Ahead of World Menopause Day on October 18, author Betty Johansen is drawing attention to the stigma many women face during perimenopause and menopause through ‘Dancing Through Menopause,’ her faith-based guide first published in 2024.
Perimenopause often arrives quietly before making itself known through the body, notes Johansen, as declining estrogen levels bring sleep disturbances, brain fog, and emotional fluctuations, along with changes in weight and fat distribution that can feel difficult to manage. These shifts can leave many women feeling lost, uncomfortable, and unsure of their place within their own changing bodies.
Beyond the physical toll, research from the Astellas Menopause Experience & Attitudes Study points to a broader pattern of silence surrounding this life stage: out of 13,800 respondents across six countries, two-thirds among those with lived experience reported negative psychological feelings, and 59% called menopause taboo.
Coming from a faith-based perspective, "Dancing Through Menopause" pairs practical strategies for physical symptoms and emotional challenges with an invitation to lean into faith during this transitional season, addressing both body and spirit rather than treating menopause as a purely clinical event. Johansen built the book around the idea that attitude shapes experience, positioning the menopausal years as a season for joyful growth rather than retreat.
Central to the book's message is the idea of turning powerlessness into prayerfulness. Johansen says, "Even as the body changes, God's Word remains constant, offering a steady anchor amid unpredictable symptoms." Readers are encouraged to continue caring for themselves diligently while placing their ultimate hope in God, whether they face sleepless nights or unwelcome weight changes.
While rooted in Christian faith, the book is written to be accessible to women of varied backgrounds who are seeking guidance through this transition. Johansen's approach draws on her West Texas upbringing and her broader interest in nurturing both faith and critical thinking among readers.
“In honor of World Menopause Day, I would like to remind women that it’s time to change the narrative around menopause,” says Johansen. “My goal with this book has always been to help women find confidence and empowerment, and hopefully inspire them to start challenging those long-held beliefs that menopause is an ending, when we can turn it into a new beginning.”
