The company’s wholly-owned subsidiary, 7ACRES, was deemed Brand of the Year at the 2018 Canadian Cannabis Awards and completed first shipments of its branded cannabis to six of Canada’s provincially regulated adult-use channels. Supreme Cannabis also engaged Medipharm Labs Co. to facilitate launch of the company’s cannabis oil products line and entered into a international partnership agreement with Khalifa Kush Enterprises to develop and launch premium cannabis products for the Canadian and international markets excluding the U.S.

“During the second quarter we made our first shipments of 7ACRES-branded product to adult-use markets in six provinces,” Supreme Cannabis CEO Navdeep Dhaliwal said in the news release. “The consumer feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Cannabis enthusiasts are vocal about their passion for high-quality cannabis. We believe 7ACRES has quickly established itself as Canada’s only premier cannabis producer at scale. With construction on the flowering room at 7ACRES scheduled to be completed by the end of March, we’re looking forward to increasing our production capacity to help meet consumer demand and drive further revenue growth throughout the year.  This quarter validated many aspects of our consumer driven market thesis and demonstrates the strength of our intellectual property around scaled cultivation.”

Border wall a complex issue for 2020 prospect Beto O'Rourke

Feb 18, 2019

EL PASO, Texas — When President Donald Trump visited Beto O'Rourke's hometown to argue that walling off the southern border would make the U.S. safer, the former Democratic congressman and possible 2020 presidential hopeful was ready. As the president filled an El Paso arena with supporters, O'Rourke helped lead thousands of his own on a protest march past the barrier of barbed-wire topped fencing and towering metal slats that separates El Paso from Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. O'Rourke clearly hopes to make his personal experience with the border a strength if he runs for president — and the battle over billions...

'Digital gangsters': UK wants tougher rules for Facebook

Feb 18, 2019

LONDON — British lawmakers issued a scathing report Monday that calls for tougher rules to keep Facebook and other tech firms from acting like "digital gangsters" and intentionally violating data privacy and competition laws. The report on fake news and disinformation on social media sites followed an 18-month investigation by Parliament's influential media committee. The committee recommended that social media sites should have to follow a mandatory code of ethics overseen by an independent regulator to better control harmful or illegal content. The report called out Facebook in particular, saying that the site's structure seems to be designed to "conceal...

Brex-split: 7 lawmakers quit Labour over EU, anti-Semitism

Feb 18, 2019

LONDON — Seven British lawmakers quit the main opposition Labour Party on Monday over its approach to issues including Brexit and anti-Semitism — the biggest shake-up in years for one of Britain's major political parties. The announcement ripped open a long-simmering rift between socialists and centrists in the party, which sees itself as the representative of Britain's working class. It's also the latest fallout from Britain's decision to leave the European Union, which has split both of the country's two main parties — Conservatives and Labour — into pro-Brexit and pro-EU camps. Many Labour lawmakers have been unhappy with the...

Former head of Alternative for Germany on trial for perjury

Feb 18, 2019

BERLIN — The former head of far-right Alternative for Germany party has appeared in court on charges of perjury. Frauke Petry appeared Monday before the regional court in Dresden to defend herself against accusations that she made false statements to parliament while under oath. Petry has previously acknowledged making erroneous statements about the nature of loans that members made to the party during an election campaign, but denied doing so intentionally. A ruling is expected next month. The 43-year-old left Alternative for Germany after the country's 2017 national election and founded her own party, which plans to contest this year's...

School threat system fields thousands of tips in first month

Feb 18, 2019

HARRISBURG, Pa. — A threat reporting system now required for all Pennsylvania schools fielded more than 4,900 tips in its first month, about a third of them considered serious enough to pass along to local police and school officials. The goal of the Safe 2 Say Something program, which funnels tips to an around-the-clock call center at the attorney general's headquarters in Harrisburg, is to respond to troubling behavior, unsafe school situations and anything else tipsters deems appropriate to report. The program passed the Legislature with near unanimity last year, mandating it encompass all K-12 students in Pennsylvania, including charter,...
