Iowa State honors slain golfer before Akron football game

Sep 22, 2018

AMES, Iowa — Iowa State honored slain golf star Celia Barquin Arozamena with an elaborate ceremony ahead of the Cyclones' game against Akron on Saturday. Iowa State's band used a formation that spelled out Barquin's initials, and both teams wore a decal on their helmets in her memory. A tribute to Barquin played on a video screen before a moment of silence, and fans were asked to wear yellow, one of Iowa State's main colors and a nod to Barquin's Spanish roots. Most of the roughly 60,000 fans in attendance complied with yellow and with golf shirts on a chilly...

Some see signs of hope on North Korea as Trump heads to UN

Sep 22, 2018

WASHINGTON — North Korea's Kim Jong Un is "little rocket man" no more. President Donald Trump isn't a "mentally deranged U.S. dotard." In the year since Trump's searing, debut U.N. speech fueled fears of nuclear conflict with North Korea, the two leaders have turned from threats to flattery. And there's fresh hope that the U.S. president's abrupt shift from coercion to negotiation can yield results in getting Kim to halt, if not abandon, his nuclear weapons program. Trump will address world leaders at the United Nations on Tuesday on the back of an upbeat summit between South and North Korea,...

"Sky is a wonderful company with a great platform, tremendous brand and accomplished...

Parents face tougher rules to get immigrant children back

Sep 22, 2018

MIAMI — Armando Tabora desperately wants to get his teenage daughter out of the government detention facility where she has been for more than three months. He has been stymied at every turn. The Florida landscaping worker took the bold step of going to a government office to submit fingerprints and other documents required for immigrants to get their children out of government custody — and are now being shared with deportation agents. He was then told that the woman he rents a room from would also need to submit fingerprints, something she refused to do. He then sought out...

North Dakota Senate candidate: Kavanaugh allegation 'absurd'

Sep 22, 2018

BISMARCK, N.D. — North Dakota Republican Senate candidate Kevin Cramer said a sexual assault accusation against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is "even more absurd" than Anita Hill's 1991 sexual harassment allegations against Clarence Thomas because Kavanaugh and his accuser were teenagers who "evidently were drunk." Cramer, a U.S. House member, made the comments to Grand Forks radio station KNOX, saying the alleged incident between Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford at a high school party was "supposedly an attempt or something that never went anywhere." "If to the degree there was any legitimacy to Anita Hill's claims and she tried...
