Funeral to be held for Pennsylvania teen killed by police

Jun 25, 2018

PITTSBURGH — Funeral services are being held for a black teenager shot and killed by a white police officer when he fled a traffic stop in Pennsylvania last week. Hundreds of mourners are expected to attend the Monday service for Antwon Rose Jr. at the Woodland Hills Intermediate School in Swissvale. The 17-year-old was killed Tuesday after police in East Pittsburgh stopped a car officials say matched a vehicle wanted in a shooting in a nearby town. The shooting remains under investigation. No charges have been filed. The case is among several across the country in recent years that have...

German house explosion probe targets injured resident

Jun 25, 2018

BERLIN — German authorities say a resident of an apartment building that was destroyed in a weekend explosion is suspected of causing the blast by manipulating gas pipes. Five people were injured in the explosion Saturday night in the western city of Wuppertal. Police and prosecutors said Monday that they have opened an investigation into suspected multiple attempted murder after investigators found evidence that the gas system had been tampered with. They said that the suspect, a 54-year-old man who lived in the house, was among those severely hurt and could not yet be questioned. A statement from investigators said...

Supreme Court declines to hear 'Making a Murderer' case

Jun 25, 2018

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court said Monday it won't weigh in on the case of a teenager convicted of rape and murder whose story was documented in the Netflix series "Making a Murderer." As is typical, the justices did not explain their decision declining to take the case. The justices' decision leaves in place a lower court ruling against Brendan Dassey. Dassey was 16 years old when he confessed to Wisconsin authorities that he had joined his uncle in raping and murdering photographer Teresa Halbach before burning her body in a bonfire. Dassey's attorneys, however, say he's borderline intellectually disabled...

Jun 25, 2018

WASHINGTON — The Latest on immigration legislation (all times local): 9:15 a.m. President Donald Trump says the legal due process given to people caught trying to cross the U.S. border illegally is dysfunctional and "not the way to go." Trump says in a series of typo-filled tweets that, "Hiring manythousands of judges, and going through a long and complicated legal process, is not the way to go - will always be disfunctional." Trump says that people trying to gain entry "must simply be stopped at the Border and told they cannot come into the U.S. illegally" and that children should...

Harley, stung by tariffs, shifts some production overseas

Jun 25, 2018

MILWAUKEE — Harley-Davidson, up against spiraling costs from tariffs, will begin to shift the production of motorcycles headed for Europe from the U.S. to factories overseas. The European Union on Friday began rolling out tariffs on American imports like bourbon, peanut butter and orange juice. The EU tariffs on $3.4 billion worth of U.S. products are retaliation for duties the Trump administration is imposing on European steel and aluminum. President Donald Trump has used Harley-Davidson as an example of a U.S. business that is being harmed by trade barriers. Yet Harley has warned consistently against tariffs, saying they would negatively...
