CARMEL, Ind. – There are some people who have an innate fear of dentistry and dental care in general. This is because of preconceived notions or past experiences. This fear can be crippling and lead to poor dental health and hygiene. This in itself can lead to additional health problems.
Children are especially vulnerable and often fear the dentist. Proper oral care and hygiene is necessary not only for good health as mentioned previously, but dental health is also tied to school performance. Children who miss school because of various dental issues often fall behind their peers academically.
Linderman Dental is one of Carmel, Ind., dental offices that use sedation dentistry as part of their professional practice. Many think of sedation dentistry as necessary on in the case of major dental procedures such as a root canal, implant or extraction. This is not the case. Many patients undergo dental sedation for the most basic of dental services.
“We are a family practice, so we see everyone. It is very common to have patients with fears of needles, poor past experiences and even gagging during dental procedures. This is why we offer this service. It helps encourage good dental health,” said Dr. Linderman.
Dental sedation has several different levels depending on the patient and situation. Levels range from minimal, a relaxation of the patient to general anesthesia. With general sedation, patients are completely unconscious in a manner similar to major surgical procedures.
“My staff and I are committed to making the best suggestions for families considering dental sedation. We consult with the patient and family, answer any and all questions and assuage any feelings and concerns. Those who elect for sedation often are relieved and comforted by the results,” continued Linderman.
As a family practice, Linderman Dental sees children. Linderman practiced pediatric dentistry, dental practice for children up to age 18, for five years before moving to family dentistry. He is familiar with the sometimes difficult times children have with the dentist and thedentist office.
“Feel free to contact the practice if you think sedation dentistry may be good for you and your family. My staff is happy to answer questions or schedule an appointment consultation,” said Linderman.
